In any given moment, there are an unlimited number of perspectives that take account. The project Unkempt Memories and Contradictions is an abstractly gathered self-portrait composed of fragments of memories, interpretations, and visions of myself. Beginning with questions about my relationship to my grandmother and evolving into questions about who I am to myself and others, the project is intended to highlight the many components both private and public that ultimately become intertwined with one's self-understanding. The photographs in this series have become attempts to say the words or express the feelings that may never be vocalized to one another. The work is intended to spark conversations that will create mutual understanding and connections between people as they find similarities between themselves. My hope for others, when they see my work, is that they will be able to resonate with some aspect of it and have the opportunity to feel heard or begin to question the many facets of a “singular” perception.
